InterPARES Definition

n. ~ The transfer of responsibility for an activity (service) to another party by abstracting some commodity with a one-time expense to the usefulness of the commodity with an on-going fee.

General Notes

The underlying technology a service provider uses to offer a service may be hidden from the consumer. It may change, sometimes without notice, as long as the inputs and outputs of the service remains the same. For example, a service provider for storage as service may use tape, spinning disk, or solid state drives; the choice of technology is of no significance to the consumer as long as the terms of the service level agreement are met.
